Carrot fly

We have recently bought a house but all the already planted carrots and now our newly planted carrots are being infected in some way with a thing that seems to tunnel into the carrot.

 

This is likely to be carrot fly. The following is an article that explains the life cycle of this pest and how to prevent an infestation.

Keeping carrot fly and other nasties at bay

Unfortunately you will need to remove all infected crop. When you come to sowing next time round, place Yates Soil Insect Killer granules in the seed rows, ensuring first that you have rotated your crops.
